High-brow or downright pretentious, good PNR or sparkly vampires, I don't care about the premise so long as it entertains me.
Bless me!It's been a while since I read a good paranormal romance. I mean, seriously good. Jackie Kessler just earned me as a possible follower, and it's not just because there's sex going on.But I'm getting ahead of myself. Former succubus Jezebel flees from Hell after an interesting event. Her flight brings on a lot of trouble for her former counterparts. She chooses to go around as a mortal to escape, but get more than she bargained in for when she falls in love. Jezebel is... quite frankly a breath of fresh air. Unlike the insecure prudes like Bella Swan, Nora Gray and even Anita Blake (at first, anyway), she is completely comfortable with her sexuality and isn't afraid to get what she wants. She is sin, and even if she acquires a conscious as the book progresses (you can't have a hero without that one, I suppose), she still sees the fun side of it and enjoys it fully. As for the plot, it's well thought of. The author actually did her homework (I suspect Dante's Inferno was her main point of reference) when it comes to the workings of Hell and stuff. Perhaps my only problem was that the demons, including Jezebel herself, were a little bit too human (albeit, humans who embrace their sinful side), but I guess that with the final twist, that kinda explains itself. Also, for a millenia-old demon, Jezebel takes a surprising lot of risks, but it comes with the territory, I guess. All in all, it's an entertaining read worth your time. Fully deserving of the four stars, anyway.
