High-brow or downright pretentious, good PNR or sparkly vampires, I don't care about the premise so long as it entertains me.
I like Sarah Dessen's style. I like how she writes teenagers. I love these covers, with the bright colors against the dark background and whatnot. It's really cool. That being said, this novel just failed to deliver. Not because there wasn't a single likeable character in this book, although I was very annoyed with most of them. Haven was pretty much surrounded by selfish jerks and assholes throughout the whole time, and I couldn't blame her for one minute for being angry with the world as a whole. No, my problem with this novel was the fact that it felt so pointless. There was little to no plot, no buildup, not even a decent resolution. So she blows up? Big surprise there. She realizes that Sumner wasn't the person she wants him to be? Ok. Then what? What will she do once she comes to that realization? We never know.
